Prenatal-Aware Teaching: Supporting Pregnancy in Mixed-Level Classes | In-person $40 & Zoom $40
What do you actually need to know to welcome a pregnant student into your regular class? And where’s the line between a thoughtful adjustment and a dedicated prenatal class?
This three-hour teaching lab explores how to welcome pregnant students into general, mixed-level classes. We’ll examine how everyday teaching decisions like cueing and pacing can support a pregnant student well, without asking her to explain her pregnancy or her needs.
Through guided movement, a practical planning checklist, realistic classroom scenarios, and short teaching exercises, you’ll explore not only what to offer, but how to offer it. You’ll practice giving clear direction while leaving room for a body that’s changing week to week.
We’ll explore:
Foundational prenatal-aware principles and how to translate them into everyday teaching decisions.
What to watch for and what to adjust across the stages of pregnancy, without requiring disclosure.
Language and prop options that support a pregnant student without singling her out in a mixed-level room.
Postures and cues that carry more risk during pregnancy, and what to offer in their place.
How pacing, transitions, and class structure can support predictability for a changing body.
How to examine a teaching scenario, explain your reasoning, and revise both your words and your actions.
The boundaries of this workshop’s scope, including when to point a student toward a dedicated prenatal class instead.
You’ll move beyond identifying a helpful cue to practicing a coherent teaching approach. Leave with a planning checklist, a workshop reference sheet, and concrete revisions you can bring into your next class.
